Coming Up on Africa News Tonight: Princess Marie-Esmeralda, the great-grand-niece of Belgium’s King Leopold II is currently in the Democratic Republic of Congo where she said the Belgian king’s visit to the Central African nation could lead to a new relationship between the two nations; The joint security operation between Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria has been labeled a success by officials who say 4,500 civilians have been freed and over 800 militants have been killed since late March resulting from the joint operation.

Nonetheless, Eric Farnsworth, Vice President of the Americas Society and Council of the Americas, and Cynthia Arnson, former director, now distinguished fellow of the Latin American Program at Wilson Center tell host Carol Castiel that despite low expectations for the Summit, the Biden administration was right to underscore democracy and propose concrete remedies for migration, health infrastructure and economic development.
