Fighting erupted Tuesday in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo after a two-day lull, with M23 fighters attacking positions of the Congolese armed forces in South Kivu province at dawn, despite a call from African leaders for an immediate ceasefire. Niger is set to hold a national convention to map out its long-awaited political transition following the July 2023 coup that deposed President Mohamed Bazoum.
