South Sudanese basketball player Nuni Omot gets a Sonny Side of Sports salute on Thursday's show. Omot, shown dunking for Baylor University in 2018, also had the first dunk in 2023 Nile Conference play in the Basketball Africa League. He scored a game-high 21 points Wednesday to help lead Al Ahly of Egypt to a 92-74 win over Ferroviario da Beira of Mozambique in the opening Nile Conference game in Cairo.
