US-Based Teff Farmer to Export Staple Back to Ethiopia as Food Assistance
Tesfa Drar has managed to do what was unthinkable outside Ethiopia – growing teff, an ancient grain native to the Horn of Africa. Drar has been growing the gluten-free grain in the West and Midwest of the U.S. for several years and finding new markets for it. Drar tells Africa 54 host Esther Githui-Ewart that he is working to begin donating the teff he grows back to Ethiopia as part of food aid assistance for areas hit hard by drought.
