US officials hold talks with DRC as rebels advance
The Democratic Republic of Congo is looking to the United States in its bid to find an ally in the government’s battle against advancing M23 rebels. Republican strategist Joe Szlavik, who is in Kinshasa, confirmed to VOA that early talks between U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration and the DRC government are underway, including discussions on a possible minerals deal. He tells VOA’s Carol Van Dam that Trump will soon announce a special envoy to the Great Lakes region.
