UK Supreme Court Rules Against Sending Asylum Seekers to Rwanda
Britain’s Supreme Court ruled that the government's plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was unlawful, as Rwanda could not be considered a safe third country alternative. Yolande Makolo, spokesperson for the Rwandan government, said the Rwandan government took issue with the ruling stating that "Rwanda is not a safe third country for asylum seekers and refugees in terms of refoulement." For more on the implications of the British Supreme Court’s decision, VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Prudentienne Seward, a Rwandan activist.
