Somali Volunteers Take Action to Restore Mogadishu's Golden Coast
Locals in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu are volunteering to clean up and reclaim their ancient city’s beaches, which have been scarred by piles of debris throughout the years. On Urubo, Liido and Sugunto Liido beaches had become a landfill, even disused vehicles were dumped here. But the volunteers are hoping that if the clean-up is successful, renewed interest in the beaches will again generate local tourism and help the city’s economy.
