Niamey Residents Welcome Bazoum's Prosecution
Residents of Niamey have welcomed news by Niger's military junta that they would prosecute deposed President Mohamed Bazoum for "high treason" claiming "he betrayed our country." Spokesman Col. Maj. Amadou Abdramane said Sunday the military has gathered evidence to prosecute Bazoum for "undermining the internal and external security of Niger." Ali Idrissa, executive secretary for the Network of Organizations for Transparency and Analysis of Budget, a local human rights group, told the Associated Press that "handing over a president to the courts means removing him from office."
