Liberia Set for 2023 Elections
Liberians are scheduled to head to the polls Tuesday to vote in a general election that will witness incumbent President George Weah seeking re-election, despite a first term that was marred with allegations of corruption and other challenges. Weah, a former soccer star that took office in 2017, will be challenged by several opponents, among them, former Vice President Joseph Boakai, Alexander Cummings, an entrepreneur and Taiwan Gongloe, a human rights attorney.
