Kenya Finance Bill Targets Petrol, Beauty Products
Kenyans are bracing for higher taxes on petrol and beauty products following the introduction of a new finance bill by President William Ruto's government. The controversial proposal to impose a 5% tax on wings, fake beards and other beauty products to help raise revenue, is not going down well with locals. "We'll be shaving our heads," Regina Mueni, a customer getting her hair braided in Nairobi's Kenyatta market, told AFP in response to the proposal. The new bill also suggests doubling value added tax (VAT) on fuel from the current eight percent to 16%, raising concern among drivers.
