Health Report: PEPFAR's Impact And Funding
In 2003, U.S. President George W. Bush launched the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR. The program has been instrumental in providing funding for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support services, particularly in countries with high prevalence rates. One of PEPFAR's most significant achievements has been the provision of anti-retroviral treatment to millions of people living with HIV. For a look into the effectiveness of the program and the funding challenges it now faces, VOA’s Linord Moudou spoke to Chip Lyons, President and CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
