Former US President Jimmy Carter dies at 100
Former United States President and humanitarian Jimmy Carter died on Sunday, December 29th, at the age of 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia. The late Carter is fondly remembered by many in Africa for his efforts to eradicate preventable diseases such as river blindness, guinea worm and philanthropic work on the continent. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Macharia Munene, a professor of history and international relations at the United States International University in Nairobi, Kenya, for a reflection on Carter’s legacy and human rights work on the continent.
