Cairo Building Collapse Kills at Least Nine
A five-storey apartment building collapsed in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Monday, killing at least nine people, authorities said, as rescuers searched through the rubble. The state-run MENA news agency said four survivors were recovered from under the remains of the building, which collapsed in the Hadaeq el-Qubbah neighborhood. Police forces cordoned off the area as rescue teams combed through the debris, searching for survivors. Following an initial inspection, Egyptian authorities said the collapse was caused by one of the ground floor residents who removed a number of walls during earlier maintenance work.
