Analysis: Can President-elect Donald Trump use recess appointments to confirm cabinet nominees?
United States president-elect Donald Trump has indicated he is willing to utilize a little-known process called ‘recess appointments’ to help confirm members of his cabinet. While previous administrations have used the procedure to achieve their policy goals, none have used it for high profile positions that normally go through a strict vote in the U.S. Senate. VOA’s Philip Alexiou spoke to James Wallner, a senior fellow with the R Street Institute in Washington, D.C., about the recess appointment process, and if it’s possible for United States president-elect Donald Trump to utilize it upon his return to public office.
