Pundits and fans applaud Nigeria’s ‘D’Tigress’ for historic campaign and Paris Olympics
Basketball pundits and fans continue to praise Nigeria’s “D’Tigress,” the West African nation’s women’s basketball team, for their performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics where they made history by becoming the first from the continent to advance to the quarter finals of the games. The achievement earned D’Tigress’s coach, Rena Wakama, the accolade of Best Female Basketball Coach at the Olympics by the International Basketball Federation, known by its French acronym, FIBA. For more on the historic campaign, VOA’s Mike Hove and Muqbil Yabarow spoke with Cheick Theiro, a former professional basketball player and VOA Bambara’s sports reporter.
