Analysis: Senegal’s Bassirou Faye Sworn in As President
Bassirou Diomaye Faye has never held elected office as he prepares to take the helm of a nation struggling with a faltering economy that has one in three of around 17 million inhabitants living in poverty. According to analysts, the peaceful transfer of power in a region that has experienced coups is evidence of Senegal's political maturity and democratic stability.
