Nigeria’s Main Opposition Candidates Appeal to Supreme Court
Nigeria's two main opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, recently filed separate appeals at the Supreme Court challenging a tribunal ruling that earlier this month. It upheld President Bola Tinubu's victory in a disputed February election, saying the tribunal erred "when it failed to nullify the presidential election ... on the ground of noncompliance" with the electoral law. For an analysis of Nigeria’s election infrastructure and what the appeal is seeking to clarify, VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Evelyn Dan Epelle, a policy analyst and Nigerian citizen.
