Gabonese Students See Glimmer of Hope in Post-Bongo Gabon
In the practically deserted hallways of the Omar Bongo University campus in the Gabonese capital Libreville, Marcus Mouloud is revising his mathematics coursework with other students. They are hopeful that the August regime change will lead to an improved way of life. "We will be a saved youth compared to others," he says of the new regime that ousted President Ali Bongo after an election the opposition said was unfair. Mireille Karlina Ayindone Nyoudou, a third year law student, said since transition president Brice Oligui Nguema took over "many things are improving and that is already a lot of hope for us.'' But Karly Elislande, another third year law student, said she wants the leaders to honor their promises.
