Gabonese Celebrate Ending of 53 Years of Bongo Leadership
Gabonese took to the streets of the Central African nation Wednesday to celebrate a military takeover and ousting of President Ali Bongo Ondimba, who recently was declared the winner of the August 26 general elections. Prior to his removal, Bongo led Gabon for 14 years with hopes of leading for another 5-years after the announcement by the nation’s electoral body that he had won his third term. The 64-year-old Central African leader took over reigns from his father, Omar Bongo, who governed Gabon from Dec.2, 1967-June 8, 2009.
