Gabon Military Removes Bongo
Senior Gabonese military officers Wednesday morning delivered a national televised address where they announced they were seizing power from recently re-elected President Ali Bongo Ondimba who had just won his third term. While delivering the televised address, the military officers said Bongo’s re-election is canceled while dissolving state institutions and closing borders “until further notice.” Following the address, the officers announced that Bongo is under house arrest and called for nationwide calm.
