Music Gives Hope to Sub-Saharan Migrants in Cyprus
In Nicosia, Cyprus, music helps sub-Saharan asylum-seekers integrate into Cypriot society and forget their varying situations for a period of time. After arriving in Cyprus from Cameroon, musician Isaac Yossi, also known as "Big Yoss," created the music ensemble Skyband in an effort to bridge the gap he felt with locals. Similarly, for Gambian musician Ibrahim Kamara, music allows him to momentarily forget his quest for asylum; even if just for the length of a song.
