Protests in Nigeria Against Fuel Subsidy Cuts
Public workers marched across Nigerian cities on Wednesday to protest the soaring cost of living. Calling for the government to improve social welfare interventions to reduce hardship, protestors chanted and sang against fuel subsidy cuts that have led to the rising cost of petrol in the oil-rich nation. "The option of continuing this protest for a longer period is open to us," said Joe Ajaero, president of the the Nigerian Labour Congress, the umbrella body of unions that organized the protests.
