Harris Lauds Tanzania's Democracy
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday praised Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her efforts to lead the southern African nation toward democracy, stating that the United States supports democracy over other forms of government. During a press conference in Dar es Salaam, Harris added, "this reflects a shared desire between us." Although elected as a member of the ruling party, Hassan, Tanzania's first female president, has reversed some of the nation's more repressive laws, including a prohibition on opposition rallies.
