Sierra Leone: Peace Pledge Bolsters Stability Ahead of Key Election
Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio’s main rival and former foreign minister Samura Kamara, and other presidential candidates have signed a peace pledge a move to help ensure the coming June 24 general election remains peaceful. Analysts say the agreement was a necessary signal to supporters of the candidates not to engage in violence during the election process and will help ease rising political tensions.
