Nigerian-American representative runs for federal reelection
Washington, D.C. is gearing up for its upcoming Democratic party primary on June 4. One of the candidates running for reelection as the United States Shadow Representative for the District of Columbia is Adeoye "Oye" Owolewa. He is a Nigerian-American politician and pharmacist who is committed to advocating for D.C. statehood to ensure that all residents of the federal district have full voting representation in Congress. Owolewa spoke to VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart for more on how he plans to advance legislation granting statehood to residents of the nation’s capital.
