Millions of African Women Suffer From Inadequate Maternal Care
Obstetric fistula, considered to be one of the most devastating and serious childbirth injuries, occurs when a mother has a prolonged, obstructed labor, but does not have access to emergency medical care, such as a C-section. At least one million women in Africa and Asia are currently suffering from untreated fistula, according to the Fistula Foundation.
