Kenya's Senate today launched the impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after the embattled politician lost another court bid to stop the process. The war in Sudan has escalated in recent weeks, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces has accused Egypt of helping the Sudanese army. Chad is pleading for urgent international assistance for more than two million people affected by floods, which have claimed at least 600 lives.

The United Nations says there is enough food in the world, but hunger persists for 10 percent of the planet’s population, and experts say South Sudan is one of the most food insecure countries. The UN reports that over 10 million people, about a fifth of Sudan's population, have been forced from their homes due to the war, and one refugee says the situation for those left behind is getting worse.
