Repeated attacks in Sudan’s White Nile state have led to a deadly wave of cholera in the region. Since February 20, the French medical charity Doctors Without Borders or MSF says more than 27-hundred patients have been admitted to the Ministry of Health’s cholera treatment center at Kosti Teaching Hospital. Sudan Coordinator Marta Cazarola tells VOA’s Carol Van Dam the hospital is supported by MSF.
In Sudan, UNICEF says armed men are raping and sexually assaulting children, including infants as young as one. The academic staff at South Sudan’s Rumbek University say they are partially lifting the strike that was declared last year after going months without their salaries. The fighting in Nasir County in Upper Nile State has pushed civilians to flee their homes and there are fears it could worsen. A youth leader of the militia known as the White Army in Nasir County says 21 people have been killed and many others injured in clashes between local youth and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.
