African music promoters and fanatics applaud the ascension of Afrobeats to mainstream success, going from being rejected by major U.S. outlets and media platforms, to becoming one of the most consumed music genres across the world.
For more, VOA’s Mike Hove sat down with Osita “Duke” Ugeh, the founder of Duke Concepts, a U.S. promotions company that has overseen the tours of several well-known African musicians, among them award-winning acts such as Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Adekunle Gold.
Duke speaks about the challenges he faced promoting African acts and how he facilitated several historic performances, including Burna Boy's show in New York where he sold out Madison Square Garden, which seats almost 20,000 people.
