The COP29 climate summit is due to get underway on Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan - a country whose economy is largely based on selling fossil fuels. Over 12 days, world leaders and thousands of delegates will try to negotiate ways to cut greenhouse gas emissions, amid warnings that efforts to limit global warming are way off track. The two main candidates for U.S. president are making what they call their "closing arguments" to voters in this final week before the election. Some international relations analysts say the outcome of next week’s election in the United States will have a profound influence on Washington’s relations with Africa, especially regarding trade, security and climate change initiatives.
