License Plate Tracking System Unveiled in Uganda

A Human Rights Watch report has raised concerns on privacy rights and freedom of expression after Uganda debuted a new license plate surveillance system. The system allows the government to track the locations of all registered vehicles in real-time, including foreign cars temporarily in the country. Vehicle owners must also pay a registration fee to obtain new plates with tracking devices provided by Uganda Telecommunications Corporation Ltd. 20 Killed After Intense Shelling Hits Khartoum

More than 20 people were killed Sunday after shells hit a market in a suburb of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, a committee of pro-democracy lawyers said in a statement.
