Aboubakar underwent scans on Saturday for his hamstring after his injury in training on Friday.
Authorities say once the outcome of his scans are assessed a decision will be made on whether the 31-year-old forward will play at AFCON.
Aboubakar is one of four players representing Cameroon at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, who was also in the winning team in 2017, after the Indomitable Lions won the trophy in Gabon.
With 97 caps to his name, the Turkey based forward has competed at three World Cup finals for Cameroon and three previous AFCON tournaments.
Cameroon has the option to replace the injured captain before their opening Group C game against Guinea in Yamoussoukro on Monday.
