Zimbabwe’s Independent Candidate Calls For Fair Polls
The independent candidate in Zimbabwe’s August 23 elections says the government is frustrating his candidacy because it knows he will defeat President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Saviour Kasukuwere says it is essential for Zimbabwe to hold free and fair elections so that the people can freely express their will. This comes as the Zimbabwe Supreme Court is set to rule Thursday on Kasukuwere’s appeal against the High Court’s decision to disqualify him on grounds that he had been out of the country for over 18 months. Kasukuwere tells VOA’s James Butty, he hopes the court will grant his appeal.
