VOA Exclusive: Djibouti’s US Ambassador Doualeh lays out plans to diffuse Ethiopia, Somalia tensions
The Djibouti top envoy to the US says his country has offered a pathway towards resolving the tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia. It comes after Ethiopia signed an agreement with Somalia's breakaway region Somaliland that grants Addis Ababa access to the Red Sea. The move angered Mogadishu which accused Ethiopia of violating its sovereignty which created friction between the two countries. In an interview with VOA's Peter Clottey, Ambassador Mohamed Siad Doualeh said the administration in Dibouti is hopeful the offer will help ease the tensions between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa.
