UN Rights Council Condemns Violence in Sudan, Urges for Peaceful Resolution
The U.N. Human Rights Council voted Thursday to further scrutinize current human rights violations taking place in Sudan. During the opening speech of the session, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk accused both sides of violating international humanitarian law. Turk called out the Sudanese military for launching attacks in heavily populated civilian areas and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for taking over many buildings in Khartoum, forcing residents out and launching attacks from densely inhabited urban areas.
