Tensions are high after security forces arrested several officials with the SPLM-In Opposition. A fragile power-sharing arrangement between President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Riek Machar is under threat by conflicts among their allied troops in Upper Nile state. South Sudan ended a 5-year civil war in 2018 with a power-sharing deal. Today, Uganda deployed special forces to Juba to help maintain security.
