Thousands of Sudanese Seek Refuge in Crowded Chad Camps
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that around 20,000 refugees sought shelter in Chad as continued fighting is expected to trigger more displacement. The wave of Sudanese seeking refuge in Chad has placed an additional burden on the country's limited resources, which were already strained by hosting 400,000 refugees who fled earlier conflict in Sudan. UNHCR representative in Chad Laura lo Castro, who was at the border last week, expects about 100,000 refugees to flee to Chad from Sudan in a worst-case scenario.
