The Kariba Dam spans the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Begun in 1956, it holds the world’s largest manmade reservoir – 181 billion cubic meters of water. During construction, the Zambezi suffered massive floods resulting in the deaths of 11 Italian workers left entombed in its concrete.
