The Gambia Hails Conviction of Citizen For War Crimes

The government of The Gambia welcomes the conviction in Germany of its national accused of committing crimes against humanity. According to the French News Agency (AFP), Bai Lowe was sentenced to life imprisonment Thursday for crimes against humanity, murder, and attempted murder between 2003 and 2006. He was a driver for the “Junglers,” a Gambian death squad during the rule of former President Yahya Jammeh. Gambian government spokesman Ebriama Sankareh tells VOA’s James Butty, the conviction is a victory for justice and all freedom-loving people.
