Tension Grows Ahead of Presidential Polls in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party says police shot and killed one of its supporters on Wednesday near its headquarters in Freetown. According to VOA stringer in the capital, the police have accused former combatants of firing at them with AK-47s and pistols. Sierra Leone will vote on Saturday in presidential and legislative elections. President Julius Maada Bio of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is being challenged by APC candidate Samura Kamara. Sidie Yahya Tunis, national publicity secretary of the APC, tells Daybreak Africa host James Butty, his party called Wednesday’s protest to demand conditions for a free, fair, and credible elections this weekend.
