Senegal’s Opposition Leader Sonko in Hospital
update
The health of imprisoned Senegal opposition leader Ousmane Sonko took a dramatic turn when it was announced he is weak and had to be taken to an intensive care unit of the hospital. Sonko is a candidate in next February presidential election but accused President Macky Sall of trying to deny him the right to compete. The president has denied the accusation. Nafissa Dia, a member of Sonko’s African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF) party, tells VOA’s James Butty, Sonko went on hunger strike to protest his condition and that of other political prisoners.
