Nigeria’s Election Court Validates President Tinubu’s Election
Nigeria’s Presidential Election Petitions Court has upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu by rejecting two petitions brought by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labor Party in the February 25 elections. In its ruling Wednesday, the court rejected Abubakar’s allegations of nationwide over-voting because he failed to specify the locations where the incidents took place. Earlier Wednesday, the court, in its preliminary ruling, dismissed Peter Obi’s claim of over-voting in 18,088 polling stations because he failed to name the locations of the polling areas. Yunusa Tanko, Labor Party spokesperson, tells VOA’s James Butty, the court ruling is a silent poison for Nigerian democracy.
