South Sudan-Based Nonprofits Decry Alleged Illegal Taxation
Some non-governmental organizations in South Sudan have accused the army and the SPLA-In Opposition of forcing agencies to pay illegal taxes while delivering relief aid from Juba to Upper Nile state. The South Sudan People's Defense Forces has denied its troops are involved in taxing aid agencies, while the SPLA-IO said it is not aware of any taxes imposed on NGOs operating in the SPLA-IO-controlled areas.
