The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development announced on Saturday that Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo agreed to sign a cessation of hostilities during the 41st Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Assembly in Djibouti. The regional assembly also proposed a face-to-face meeting between Gen. Burhan, who is also the army chief, and Gen. Dagalo, as well as the appointment of an envoy to Sudan. VOA's Nabeel Biajo interviewed Salman Mohamed Salman, a Sudanese political analyst and chairman of the University of Khartoum Council, who highlights the significance of transitioning from the Jeddah negotiations to end Sudan’s eight-month-long conflict to the regional context.
