Health Report: Cape Verde Declared Malaria Free
On Friday, January 12th, the World Health Organization (WHO) certified Cape Verde as malaria-free, a significant milestone for the country. Observers say Cape Verde, an archipelago of 10 islands in the central Atlantic Ocean, has faced severe epidemics in densely populated areas in the past. VOA’s Linord Moudou spoke with Dr. Dorothy Achu, Team Lead for Tropical and Vector-Borne Diseases in the WHO Regional Office for Africa, for more on how the island nation was able to reach this important milestone.
