A Gabonese rights and democracy activist says he’s disappointed in the decision by military leader General Brice Oliqui Nguema to seek the presidency. Franck Jocktane says Oliqui did not keep the promise he made to the people when he overthrew Ali Bongo. Gabon will hold presidential elections on April 22 to end military rule which began with the coup on April 30, 2023. Oliqui Nguema announced Monday that he’s running for president because the Gabonese public is urging him to. Jocktane VOA’s James Butty, the way things look now, Oliqui could win because he was able to cleverly sell himself as the savior of the people.
