Former top US diplomat says regional bodies are addressing tensions in South Sudan
With recent attacks in South Sudan, many observers worry the country is slipping toward renewed conflict. A Nuer militia with ties to first VP Machar recently captured an army base in Nasir. Machar accused the army of carrying out attacks on his forces in nearby Ulang County. VOA’s Carol Van Dam asked Ambassador Johnnie Carson, former US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs if South Sudan might return to civil war.
