DRC Ruling Party Says Former CENI Official's M23 Alliance 'a Rebellion'
The decision by Corneille Naanga, the former chair of the Democratic Republic of Congo's election commission known as CENI, to join forces with the rebel M23 group has been met with criticism by DRC's ruling party, which described the move as a "rebellion." Naanga said the agreement with the M23 and other militants, called Alliance Fleuve Congo or the Congo River Alliance, was signed to "restore peace."
