A three-day roundtable conference is being held in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital, Kinshasa, to decide on the future of the state of siege in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu. The conference, which involves elected representatives of the two restive provinces and the army, comes amid calls by Amnesty International to the DRC authorities to immediately lift the state of siege — a state of emergency — that has been in force in the two provinces for the last two years. VOA’s Douglas Mpuga reached reporter Djaffar Al Katanty in Kinshasa for more.
