Cameroon Authorities Clash with Anglophone Separatists
The conflict between armed Anglophone separatists and government security forces in Cameroon has continued after nearly seven years without any progress towards peace. Beginning in 2016, the conflict has killed tens of thousands and displaced more than 600,000 people. Rights groups and human rights activists say state security forces have taken part in extrajudicial killings, maiming, and illegal detention. For an analysis into what is currently driving the conflict, VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Mih Bibian, a Cameroonian human rights and peace activist.
